Free weight-loss hypnosis: sessions you can listen to today

If you want to try weight-loss hypnosis before you spend anything, you can. I give a lot of my work away: two free downloads from my store, hundreds of free sessions on my podcast, and plain-language guides on the habits behind overeating. Here’s what’s available, and how to get the most from it.

Two free hypnosis downloads

What you can get free

  • Two free downloads. Sign up on my free downloads page and I’ll email you a code for any two sessions from my store.
  • Free podcast sessions. My podcast, The Hypnotist, has passed 20 million downloads, and hundreds of its episodes are full hypnosis sessions you can listen to free on Spotify, YouTube or the podcast website. Three on eating are below.
  • Free guides. My guides cover sugar cravings, stress eating, evening snacking and more, each with a free session to go with it.
  • A free suitability test. My four-minute suitability test gives you an honest view of whether hypnotherapy is likely to help you, and how.
  • A free eating habits check. The eating habits check shows which patterns are driving your eating, so you know which recording to start with.

Free sessions from my podcast to start with

These three cover some of the things people ask me about most. Each one is a full session, free, with no sign-up.

How to listen safely and get the most from a recording

  1. Find a comfortable placeSit or lie somewhere you won’t be disturbed for the length of the session. A sofa, an armchair or your bed is fine. Put your phone on silent so notifications don’t pull you out.
  2. Use headphones if you canHeadphones help you hear the quieter parts and shut out the room around you. They aren’t essential, but most people find they settle more quickly with them.
  3. Never listen while drivingNever listen while driving, operating machinery or doing anything else that needs your full attention. Hypnosis recordings are designed to relax you and turn your attention inwards.
  4. Listen more than onceOne listen is a start. Repetition is where recordings tend to be most useful, so pick one session and play it regularly, most days if you can, rather than hopping between different ones.
  5. Pair it with one small changeA recording works best alongside something you do. Choose one habit to work on, such as the evening snack or eating more slowly, and let the recording support that change. Sensible eating and your own commitment still do much of the work.

What a recording can and can’t do

I want to be straight with you. A hypnosis recording is a relaxation and habit aid. It is not a treatment, and it won’t make you lose weight on its own. What it may do is help you feel calmer around food, notice the moment before you reach for a snack, and keep the change you’re making at the front of your mind.

The research supports that modest view. In one trial, people taught self-hypnosis before meals lost a similar amount of weight to people given standard advice, but felt fuller and reported a better quality of life (Bo and others, 2018). A small pilot of audio self-hypnosis found no clear difference after three weeks, though it had too few people to be sure (Antoun and others, 2022). So think of a recording as support, not a shortcut. For the full picture, read my honest summary: Does hypnosis work for weight loss?

How recordings differ from working with me one to one

A recording is the same for everyone who plays it. In one-to-one sessions I learn what actually drives your eating: the time of day, the feelings, the history, the words that land for you. Then I build the hypnosis around that, and you keep a recording of your own session to listen to afterwards.

That doesn’t mean one-to-one work produces more weight loss. I’m not aware of any research comparing the two directly. It means the session is made for you rather than for an average listener, and we can adjust it as we go. Some people do well with recordings alone, and others want someone to work through it with them. Both are reasonable choices.

My recordings and sessions are for adults only. They aren’t designed for anyone under 18.

Recorded sessions from my store

If you want something more focused than a podcast episode, my store sessions are £9.99 each and yours to keep. Your two free downloads can be any of these.

Common questions

Is there free hypnotherapy for weight loss?

Not on the NHS: hypnotherapy for weight loss isn’t offered there, and NICE guidance doesn’t include it. But you can try weight-loss hypnosis free. I offer two free store downloads, hundreds of free podcast sessions and free guides, so you can find out whether it suits you before you pay for anything.

Is weight-loss hypnosis on YouTube any good?

Some of it is, and some of it isn’t. Free recordings vary a lot, so check who made it and whether they are a qualified hypnotherapist, and avoid anything that promises a set amount of weight in a set time. My podcast sessions are free on YouTube and Spotify, and I’ve been in clinical practice for 17 years.

Can I download weight-loss hypnosis as an MP3?

Yes. My store sessions are audio downloads that you keep and can play on your phone or computer, and you can get two of them free through my free downloads offer. Most podcast apps also let you save episodes to listen to offline.

How often should I listen?

Regularly is better than occasionally. Most people get more from playing one session most days than from trying a new one each time. Listen when you can relax fully, and never while driving.

Is it safe to listen to a hypnosis recording?

For most adults, yes. Hypnosis is a relaxed, focused state and you stay aware throughout, so if something needs your attention you can respond. Don’t listen while driving or operating machinery, and if you have epilepsy, a history of psychosis or another mental health condition, or feel unsure, check with your GP first.

Will a free recording be enough?

For some people a recording is enough support to change one habit. Others find their eating has deeper roots and want help working through them. If you’re not sure which applies to you, my free suitability test is a good place to start.
